Labour Laws

I just got my Record of Employment today together
with my last paycheck. I thought I would receive a
two week pay but I did not.

I called my worker's union office but no one seems to be
interested to hear my plight. Probably because I am of no
use to them anymore. I called the labour relations offices.
There are two, one for non-union employees and one for
unionized employees. I was expecting a sympathizing gesture
from the other end of the line but all I got were annoyed
attitude as if I had disturbed them from their sudoku puzzles.

So I visited the websites for labour relations :http://www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/
There I found out I am not entitled to receive a two week pay
because I am temporarily laid off. If I am not called back to work
at the end of 13 weeks, then my employment is permanently terminated.
I would be entitled to a two week wage in lieu of a notice which
my employer did not provide.

Tomorrow I will be at the HRDC to process my employment
insurance claim. I will also try to find out what other options I have
other than finding another job. The same reason I did not call
Ledalite today to inquire about my application. I am not really
sure if going back to work in basically the same type of job is
what I want.
